Rocky Horror Show

I was invited along to press evening* for the Rocky horror show world tour last night. It was astounding….

If you have never been to see the Rocky Horror Show, or are not familiar with the show, you may be wondering why there are half naked people wandering around the streets of Southampton, as if auditioning to be an Anne summers model or something, this week?!

Well… the rocky horror show is renowned for people dressing up and celebrating the show in every way possible. A complete cult classic, unlike any musical I have seen before. It was like ru-Paul’s meets pantomime… mixed with dancing and audience participation, a really fun night out.

I have to give it to Duncan James, playing the infamous ‘Frank N Furter’, oh how he strutted around the stage in those heels, with a body to make anyone jealous. Equally Strictly Come Dancing champion, Joanne Clifton, playing Janet, was equally brilliant, and fun and good old Dom Joly kept the rowdy audience at bay and did a great job at narrating the show.

I sat confused at what was going on throughout, having not seen the film or knowing much about the story, every scene was another surprise for me. However, the show was brimming with fun and energy, the cast were fantastic and had the whole of the mayflower up on their feet performing the time warp.

It’s definitely different to other musicals out there, but it’s a cult classic for a reason and a really enjoyable evening.

The Rocky Horror Show is currently on its world tour and stopping at the mayflower until the 13th of April, you can find out more and get tickets here!
